Hello, I have a friend who just bought a 97 6.5 extended cab long box and when his temperature gage reads about 160 degrees his engine quits. He also gets codes, and is checking the codes now. Any suggestions?
Thanks
You mean it cranks up cold and as its warming up at 160F it cuts off.....Depending on codes???? Post back with more info and others will chime in.
First thought is gauge is off a bit and PCM is measuring 170F coolant temperature and it is or tries to adjust timing to normal operation timing not cold start advance and causes codes and running issue.

He did the code check last night and came up with the following:
P0216B
P0266D
P0269D
P0272D
P1214D
His timing read 15.6.
and ECT of 171.0
Thank you
