Grinding noise from starter

I have a 2002 D/A with 120,000 miles on it. For the past 15,000 mi or so, it has an occasional grinding noise when starting. I quickly release the key and then try starting again. ..It starts fine. I tried to get a look at the gear but did not find the usual removable inspection plate. Before I pull/replace the starter I thought I'd ask ya'll here if anyone else has had a similar issue. Thanks for any advice.

Try this one........... See if the starter bolts are tight. I have had a few trucks come in with starter noise and all I found was the starter bolts were loose causing an intermittent starter grind. ;)

Finally got a chance to check the bolts, all were pretty tight. Didn't want to snap the small ones. Still does the occasional grind though...Maybe have to take it to dealer???
