Sounds like a fun project. Is the block the same color as the valve covers? Can't see the block. If so, it's a 1982. DO NOT let that engine get out of your hands!! If it needs rebuilding, rebuild it. Do not replace that block (unless you break it in two, that is). The 82 blocks are much sought after for durability. The iron contains a higher nickel content not seen until nearly 20 years later.
