You've been misinformed. You can use the injector pulse from the injector line for a timing light, and it works for 6.5 and 6.2. It is not a tach signal. It could be used with the right innovation, but not practical. There are other more practical methods. The tach signal vacuum pump (cam driven) or signal generator (uses the vacuum pump location without the pump), available from www.peninsularengines.com, among other places. There are other options, but they are less "clean". A 6.5 alternator (where the 6.5 gets its signal) could be used, but that would require some other mods.
A tach signal terminal can be added to most GM alternators.
