I received a letter from GM saying the instrument cluster warranty for my 03 has been extended to 70kmi/7years .. The letter references a problem “where one or more of the instrument panel gauge needles may stick, flutter or become inoperative. This may cause inaccurate readings, including the speedometer and the fuel gauge”.

There is also a reimbursement form for repairs that had been paid out of pocket.

Thank you. I have a friend with a 03 that has a bad cluster. He was asking me for advice just a few weeks ago. This will help. Thank you for posting.

I'm still waiting on mine. They said the letters were being released in waves but didn't specify how the waves were classified. I have a 04 with 62,400 . . . sweating hoping I get it before the 70,000 mile limit! I have been using the scan gauge for over a year for my spedo.

My speedo/tach has failed 3 times in 65,000 miles (03 K2500). Once under warranty, twice outside. Got my letter on Saturday, I plan on filing the paperwork for reimbursement, about $700 for the 2 out-of-pockets.

I wonder if this is valid in Canada?? Any Canadian owners have received this letter?

I have 130000 on my 03 CC SB DMAX. The oil pressure gauge stated to fail a few months ago, albeit intermitently.

I got the letter 2-3 weeks ago, then suddenly 2 days ago the entire cluster failed. Nothing worked.

I have in the past called GM World HQ and requested assistance with the Driveline/Shaft issue to which I was summarily denied a good will repair.

To their credit they did offer me a 1000.00 certificate on a new purchase, I graciously declined.

Now to my point, I won't even attempt to contact GM, I did some research on the speedo problem.

I found a thread in another forum and it said "put the vehicle in reverse gear, cycle the key on and off to the start position several times very quickly" The vehicle will not start, make sure you apply the brakes or parking brake 1st.

I was extremely pleased when I put the vehicle in park and started the engine the entire instrument cluster worked again.

I don't know how long it will remain working, but if that's all you have to do, it beats spending big bucks to replace a part that should never fail.

Hope this helps. I cannot take credit for this fix, all I've done is share it.

Merry Christmas

The cluster warranty was extended to 7yrs/70K miles. You only have 30 days from the date you received the letter.

I sent the paperwork on/about Dec 27th. Got a full refund Jan 18th. Still not happy about 3 failures, but this takes some of the sting out.

Now if we can just get the same on the t-cases.

Bob,

Thanks for clarifying the warranty extension is 70kmi, not 200kmi as I originally posted :o (must have had the 200kmi injector warranty extension on my mind) .. Thread title has been corrected ..

Just received mine in the mail today. So, yes, we who live in the "Great White North" are also covered.

Look on EBAY. There is a guy who will replace all 5 servos for around $150.00
Has a 7 yr warrenty. Had mine done and works like new for 1/3 the cost.

Not really to resurrect an old thread, but I got notification last week of a class-action suit against GM on the clusters.

They want the 7yr/70K extended to 80K, and coverage extended to 2005 models (currently only 03/04 are eligible).

It also included the reimbursement form for repairs already made.

Doesn't really pertain to me since I've already gotten full reimbursement. Just wondering if anyone else got the letter.
