Well it's been a while since I’ve visited here. I tried using the search, but could not get it to work. I want to change the transmission fluid (oil) on my 2001 Chevy Duramax 6 speed manual transmission. Could someone please tell me the amount of oil I should purchase? I plan on using Amsoil Torque-Drive fluid. Thank you

Not sure of the capacity (what's you manual say?), but why Torquedrive? Unless you are getting it cheaper than the Amsoil Universal ATF, it has no advantage not unique to Allison's TES-295 spec. I suggest you contact Greg Landuyt (http://www.lubricationspecialist.com) for more on that. Torquedrive may not be recommended for manuals, but I know the Universal is.

I bought the torque-drive a long time ago intending to change to a synthetic, but had stiff clutch problems that resulted in the dealer installing a new master/slave cylinder. They put new transmission fluid in then (around 29,000 miles, I have 100,000 now). Now I’m ready to change it but can’t find the capacity of the transmission in the owner’s manual. I looked in both the regular and diesel supplement. I have about 2 gallons. I figure I must have known back then (that's why I have 2 gallons), but can’t find the documentation. So before I drained and found I don’t have enough I thought I’d give the forum a try. Thanks

The manual states 6.34 qts, but it doesn't specify if it's 5 speed (6.0L gasser) or 6. The manual is for the Duramax truck, so 8 qts, is probably enough, even if it's more than 6.34.

seams to me that it was around 9QTs when i had the valve body out to put in a shift kit .

He may not have the "valve body" option in his ZF 6 speed. I'm not even sure where they'd put it.

The ZF 6 speed is indeed 6.34 qts. The NVG 4500 behind the 6.0 would be only 4 qts.
