onboard air

just as the title says, i want an onboard air system for my 1989 blazer. the 6.2 has a turbo from a 6.5 and a serpentine belt conversion from a 6.5 as well.

i'm hoping to find a way to put an air compressor to run directly off the motor, belt driven that is.

all i have been able to find so far is mention of a York a/c compressor is good for this......but i'd probably have to fab up my own brackets to make it fit.

anyone out there know of any kits specifically for these engines with the serpentine belt?

Check on the Colorado K5 website. There was a tech write-up on how to install a York compressor for this such thing. I don't remember if it was a serpentine set-up, though.

A York can be set up with either a serpentine or V belt clutch pulley. I am currently planning the same thing for my 6.5.

thanks for the info folks.

but since this vehicle has a/c and the new serpentine system i have also includes an a/c pump, couldn't i just use my a/c pump as an air compressor? and if so would it be the kind of pump i would have to supply oil for? or is it just an all around bad idea to use this a/c pump for that:confused:

Yes so long as you do mind losing your a/c. When using the Sanden style you do need to have an oiler before the compressor and a filter to remove the oil after. Most people who opt for on board air go with the york style because of these oiling issues. Funny thing is it seems as tho the Extreme Flo Sanden that I included a link for is just packed full of grease with a zirk on it.
