View Full Version : hard start
Ok i have a 97 chevy 3/4 with 99,088 miles . When sitting aover night or after a day of work it takes longer than it should to start. When it finally does start it throws a good amount of white unburned fuel type of smoke. Its also starting to run a little rough at idle but thats pretty random when it does that. I have check the glow plug controller and it is ok i have yet to check the plugs though any ideas. Thanks Denny
Two things come to mind
The glow plugs can be going away and you may have a few that are not working.
A fresh set would not hurt. Aslo the injectors over time, especially if they have a lot of miles will start to drop off in pop pressure and the spray pattern will turn from a mist to squirting a stream and this can also lead to a tough and smokey startup when cold.
With winter coming on some attention to this will probably be in order
A set of injectors thats heading south can also cause the intermitent rough idle too.
Hope this helps

Yeah i think its time for injectors i noticed tugging my trailer she throws alot of black smoke that was never there before. This morning it was just below 50 and took 4 trys to get her runnin.
