View Full Version : Battery cables
I need to replace the battery cables on my 1994 6.5. Will I have to drop the starter down to remove the cable?
I have searched the Helms manuals and I can't find any reference for replacing the cables.
Thanks,
Bill

You don't have to drop the starter. Some do. I don't. It can get very tedious, though. Be sure to disconnect the batteries first. It is also a good idea to apply some dielectric grease on the connections.
Thanks dmaxmaverick for the reply. I just can't see where the cable connects the starter. Was hoping that I wouldn't have to drop the starter.

i JUST PUT A STARTER IN A 96 DUALLY FRI - I HOOKED WIRING UP AFTER STARTER WAS INSTALLED THROUGH THE FLAP ON THE FENDERWELL. LONG EXTENSION & A 15MM WOBBLE WAS THE TICKET. THE WIRING HEAT SHIELD COVERS UP THE END OF THE SOLENOID SO YOU HAVE TO GET WAY LOW & LOOK UP UNDER IT.
