View Full Version : bigger radiator?
Hello!
can i use my gas rad to my 6.2 converson
GMC 89- sportside
Is the gas engine the 350 or 454? The 454 radiator might be similar to the 6.2, but the 350 is probably to small.
It´s for the 350
but i dont understand this i thougt gas engines produced more heat
Thank you for your reply

Nope! :D
Just to start out, 6.5L is about 396 cubic inches, so about 13% greater than your 350. Also depends on how hard you work it.
You will want to get a 6.2 radiator. The higher compression ratios of the diesels generate both more power and more heat.
Is the banks turbo watercooled?
do you think i shuld bye and install banks before i install the engine in the truck or is it best to see so the engine vorks well in the truck?
sorry for my bad english

Welcome to the Forums, Conan!
You are getting sound advice here. A small block radiator will be a liability.
The Banks turbo is not water cooled.
Due to the design of the front clip of my Waggy, I was limited to the size that came with the 360 gasser. I installed a 2 core aluminum replacement and have not had any cooling issues. BUT...if I had the room I definitely would have installed something bigger. Since a diesel was an option in your chassis, I would install the bigger radiator.
No one ever regretted installing a bigger radiator.
The Banks kit can be installed with the engine in place. Right side exhaust manifold has to be removed and replaced with the Banks unit. The Banks kit would be easier with the engine out of the truck, but either option will work.
