I have a 1999 K2500 Suburban and I was told it has the 14 bolt rear axle with a 9 1/2 inch ring gear, not a 10 1/2 inch. Isn't this the same as a dana 60 rear axle and will it hold up to engine upgrades? I have a dana 80 from a 1999 dodge cummins left over from another project and I was wondering if I should replace the 14 bolt with it. Its alot stronger but also alot heavier.

Your Suburban has the 10.5" 14-bolt full-floating rear axle. It accepts 8-lug wheels and should have 13"x3.5" brake drums.
The 9.5" 14-bolt semi-floater has 11" drums and accepts 6-lug wheels.

I agree that he probably has the full floater. However the vehicle in my sig has the 14 bolt 9.5 semi floater with 13 x 2.5 8 lug drums.

That's what I thought. Until I saw one, then two, then........

My K2500 pickup has a 10.5" FF with 13"x2.5" drums, the diff cover is kinda wedged in shape. I need to pull the axleshafts to remove the brake drums.
14-bolt SF axles have a round diff cover and you need to remove 'C' clips in the center section before you can pull the axles out.
I guess GM could have put 13" drums on a SF axle... GM's done stranger things.
