Can any one tell me how to find out what year my engine was made?

There is a 4-digit date code on the bellhousing flange behind the passenger side cylinder head. The first character is a letter that translates to the month of the year (A=January, B=February, C=March etc). The middle two numbers are the day of the month, and the final number is the year (for a 6.2L diesel engine, a 6 would mean 1986).

Thanks but I've checked the engine and that spot is blank. There is a similar spot behind the left head that says '88' only. Any more help?
