View Full Version : Fuel milage guestimate, anyone?

Having just purchased my 6.5TD this late in the RV season I'm not sure I'm going to have enough towing (of any distance) left in the season to get a reasonable estimate of fuel milage...before it's time to winterize and put things away.. so I'm looking for guestimates.

We are thinking about going to Florida (From our home near Toronto) and then across to Jackson MS (to see family) and then home again during the Christmas break. Total milage will be about 5000 kilometers. (3000 Miles).

The truck is a C3500 crew cab duallie with the 4.10 rears and the 4 speed auto. Trailer is about 4500# loaded and is a low profile aerodynamic (non 5'er) which doesn't buck alot of air (It barely feels like it's back there on the highway, actually) and we'd probably have a few hundred in the pickup box with the tonneau cover still on.

We drive 60MPH (on the dot) on the cruise control and are never in any rush.

Truck has just under 200,000 Kilometers (120,000 miles) on the odometer and runs like it was new.

Anyone care to take any educated guesses?

Well, I don't know if this is too educated, but it's definitely a guess...

I pulled a extra wide extra high horse trailer extensively with my '95. It was not a dualie, it was 4WD and had a 3.73 rear. The aerodynamics of the trailer were probably a little better than yours, the weight comparable, and I go 65. Not sure if yours is 2 or 4WD, so, your mileage may vary. Anyhow, I got about 13 mpg.

Want another data point? Our '93 was 2WD 3.52 rear and a 5 speed, also not a dualie. It got 15-17 pulling the same trailer.

Here's the guess. If yours is 2WD, I'm guessing you'll get around 12.

I have the exact same rig and same weight trailer. I get 11 towing and 17-19 empty
