Hi,
Does the injection pump for a 6.2L fit on a 6.5L without recalibrating the pump?
I have a 6.5L shortblock to replace my 6.2L.
Cheers from NZ

Welcome to the Forums!
If you are replacing only the block, it will work and there should be no need for calibration.
To elaborate some.
The 6.2 and 6.5 are identicle on the outside (Except some van applications and maybe some MIL stuff)
It was common to swap a 6.5 replacement into 6.2 trucks.
Your 6.5 will run happily with the 6.2 pump bolted up and produce similar power levels that the original 6.2 did.
Just be sure when doing the assembly that the heads and such are the same as you can run into High pressure fuel line issues if you install a set of 6.5 TD heads. These have slightly different angle of the dangle on the injectors and the fuel lines are slightly different.
Good luck and let us know about any other ?????????

Good advice. But, he's replacing the short block (crank to deck). He is replacing the 6.2 heads with 6.2 heads, and keeping his recently replaced 6.2 injectors, IP and lines. (he contacted me via email)

Hi Robyn
As far as i know the heads are new 6.5 ones, they are still on the water from USA to New Zealand. should be here in 3-4 weeks. My injectors and injector pump were rebuilt 300 miles ago and now the cooling system is being pressurized

got my new 6.5 fitted to my 1984 c1500 used my recon ip and injectors, did less then 200 mls when head gasket let go on the 6.2 so left as per 6.2 specs.that was after looking through the diesel page, spent quite some time looking. I was loath to spend any extra money on IP unless I had to. she really performs, lots more power, will spin wheels around a sharp corner going up a steep hill when she kicks down, never did that with old 6.2 and i owned her since a full recon ($9000 worth) she had the biggest radiator but only 2 core replaced with 4 core now holds 6 imp gals. replaced viscos and fan with one off a john deere. 6410,the fan is about as big as you can go.a small amount of machining was done on the viscos.temp stays where it should
thanks for a great site its all there if you look
Please tell us about the fan and viscous drive off the 6410 John Deere and what you did yo get it on the 6.5????
Very interested
Best

Hi Robin
Not a lot involved. The water pump pulley had two sets of holes and the outside ones matched the viscous and were drilled out to same size as on viscous. The fan needed moving foward to clear alt & powersteering pulleys as fan is bolted to back of viscous I machined (3/4inch I think) more than enough meat for studs for the fan. threads for studs dont go all the way to bottom of hole, ran tap down and studs were in about 1/16 less than before, that was enough to give the fan clearance, not quite as much as I would have liked but ok. The boss on the powersteering pump pulley was machined off flush to the shaft and a new groove put on the pulley to get the pulley off to service pump. The fan is 22 inches and just fitted inside the shroud. The fan has 7 blades and will really suck your cat through the grill. The fan-belts are hard to get on but easier when shroud is removed, but the benefits are worth it.
Have a good one, just let us know if there is anything else.
Cheers

update on mods done to viscous & fan on 6.5. Went on first trip up and over some long and steep hills, which have pushed temps to their limit in the past. having in the past planed to arrive at said hills in early morning. On this trip went over the tops mid afternoon and temps went up about a needle width so real pleased with mods done. Big rigs with less than 450- 500 HP are often in the low box when laden
Cheers from down under in KIWI land
