PMD Installation

Just removed my old PMD and found that there appears to be some kind of paste that was applied between the pump and the thin gasket. I do not see any instructions anywhere that relates to applying anything. Any comments?

Sorry bout that,I just finished reading that post, did not look at it earlier because it was about remote cooler.
Looks like there are different schools of thought on the subject. Thanks
