Anyone using a remote start for your duramax? I thinking of installing one on my 05, but not sure if it will hurt anything. I was wanting it more to leave it running without leaving the key in the ignition. However I know when it's cold out the temptation to fire it up from the house will be to great.

I have the factory remote start for my 2007 nbs... I had aftermarket ones in my last two Ford Diesels... The remotes starts are all made to work with a diesel. You put it in "diesel" engine mode and it waits 10 seconds (every flipping time) for the glow plugs to heat up and then starts the truck. Some even have a way to recognize the WTS lamp and as soon as it goes out it starts the truck..

I'm opposite, I like to remote start the truck now before I elave the house because its too damn HOT outside.

What I like about the Aftermarket Remote Starts over the factory one. note: I had a fairly sophisticated/expensive one. I could set it up to start the truck if a certain temperature was reached inside the truck. I could have it automatically start it every 2 hours - these are both winter type handy things to have. I could use it as a turbo timer - ie. enable the remote start while the truck was running and then remove key and leave - truck would shut down automatically after 10 minutes. I could "ping" the truck and it would tell me everything was secure and what the temperature was inside the truck. (occassionally got up to 140 inside down here)

I have a "valet" Remote start on my 05, installed almost a year ago, lately it has been causing the service 4x4 message to come on, only when I use the remote starter, starting the truck with the key does not cause this message to come up, also the heat fan no longer blows unless the key is in the ignition, the dealer will not look at the remote start unless it is a factory part. I would highly recommend going with a factory unit.

I am looking at options for a remote starter also. 05 GMC what brand are you having trouble with? Might be nice to know what to stay away from. I have seen some with up to a mile range and that sounds like a nice feature. We have been starting it with an extra key and then locking but we need a more secure option.

i have a UltraStart 2way remote starter installed. it is great as i can tell if doors locked/unlocked and when started and time left running, can program to start every 1-8 hours if i want. is set to wait 15 seconds now installer did not hook up to glow plugs, but have contacted Ultrastart and they say can be hooked up that way to wait only if it gets glowplug input. just trying ot get time to get it back in...

I have a 2007 2500HD (Classic) with the LBZ. I also would like to add a remote starter to it. I spoke with my dealership (parts/service) about it. They looked into it and could not find this accessory for my model. I have seen it listed that some people do have it on this model and as a factory option. Can anyone help me out (GM part #, or someone I can contact). I know I can get it aftermarket, but I would like to try staying with the GM part, if possible.

I have had a DEI Viper 5500 2 way LCD remote start on my truck for a year now and will never own another truck without one! The best thing is it has a 1 mile range. I can start it just about anywhere in the shop at work(1/2 mile away). If you forget to lock your doors just a quick look at the screen and you know. You can lock or unlock the doors at that range to. I have it set so the heated seats come on via remote also! I would highly recommend it.

Dunno about the factory remote starts but I bet you have about a 50 feet range....Factory stuff sucks. There will always be an aftermarket product that is way better.

does it work with glow plug input or is it set to a time delay?
