I just serviced the rear axle and was confused on some other threads about the proper amount. I've read 1/2" below service hole and when it starts coming out of the service hole will be sufficient. Any information on the correct amount?
Thanks

A TSB and later publications updated the fill procedure. In 2001, it was fill to the fill hole. Some seal leakage led to the latest fill procedure, which is 3/4" below the fill hole. 1/2" is probably just fine. Should take about 3.5 qts.
While you are under there........
Check your vent line. It should not be looped or have any dips in it (except at the end), which will allow condensed fluid vapor to collect in the line and block venting. This is the main cause of seal leakage. The seals are neutral pressure, and any pressure in the axle housing can cause seal leakage.
