Hey,
I'm looking at buying a 2001 2500HD LS that has high mileage 250,000 miles
so I'm looking for info on just how durable these drive-trains and trucks really are?
The asking price is about $15,000...
Any input from those of you with experience with these trucks is appreciated.

You can do better, for the same money.

2001 was the first model year for the Duramax. Though they were good trucks, they are more likely to develop injector and/or head gasket problems, especially if you turn up the fuel rates.

I'd shop for 2002-2003 with 150K miles or less and you might be able to get a set of injectors before the 200K warranty cutoff.

Good luck!

That's a LOT of miles. Not necessarily on the engine, but the truck has all those miles on it. Depending on how well the maintenance was kept up, it could turn into a money pit real quick. Hubs, steering components, suspension components, appointments, and general wear items will nickel and dime your wallet, even though they are normal items needing to be replaced at or before the mileage it is now. These are good trucks and will remain solid for this and more miles, the parts do wear out or break. If it has had the injectors replaced in the last year, it should not be a serious factor. At the same time, if it needs injectors and/or head gaskets, the miles will justify it, and it could be completely normal. All this should be taken into consideration before settling on a price.

Thanks guys,
I'm going to pass on it, but they are sharp looking rigs imo.
The search continues.
