This is my first diesel truck, and I have had it for less than 6 weeks, already having major problems!
Truck is a 1998 GMC Sierra extended cab with the 6.5 and 4x4 (Z-71 offroad package).
I was driving it home from Evansville, IN on the parkway Sunday and it started "bucking" real badly. Engine light came on, cruise control quit working, and the truck continued to buck VERY rough for several minutes. It finally smoothed out to where it was tolerable but continued to do this all the way home, even at speeds around 55 or less. We stopped along the way in Bowling Green and it tried to die when we would approach stop lights or stop signs.
After we ate I managed to get it fired back up and drove home. Figured it was probably the fuel filter and thought I would stop by NAPA and get one on my way home after work Monday. It drove fairly well to work, but when I got ready to leave work it quit coming out of the parking lot. Got it halfway back home before it finally gave out for good. Replaced the fuel filter later that evening but still no luck. I thought there may have been air in the line that I didnt get out so I sent it to the mechanic. Mechanic ran diagnostics and said 8 out of 10 codes said fuel injector, about $1500 to fix. It will be Monday before their diesel "specialist" can look at it to let me know for sure.
I am trying to find out what those codes are so that I can post them, but I thought I would go ahead and ask, does that sound right? This is REALLY going to put a lick on me if it costs $1500 to fix, I was hoping for something else. Any other opinions?
