Suburban/YukonXL DMax Diesel

Any info out there about when we may have a Suburban/Yukon XL DMax Diesel? New to forum today. Sorry if this is an Old inquiry!

2005 Yukon 2500 6.0L gasser 4WD. Great Vehicle - Just would like the Pwr of a diesel.

The last I heard, it could be available for the 2009 model year. GM has been working on a new V-6 and smaller V-8. However..... GM has kept the rumors alive for a diesel Suburban since 2000, and we're still waiting..... I'll believe it when I see it.

One board member here has driven a prototype V-6 diesel Suburban that was developed a few years ago (~2001) by GM. This one was a 5.0L V-6 Duramax (a 6 cyl 250 hp/440 lb-ft version of the Duramax 6600). GM's current V-6 was not based off the Duramax 6600.

Isn't the whole point to get the power of the DMAX into the Suburban? If they're only going with a 250 horse engine, we could all save money and drop souped up optimizers into 2000 'Burbs.

The Suburban cannot fit the Allison in current floorpan configuration.
GM could use the Dmax but it would be de-rated to a smaller trans anyway.

Best you can hope for is the smaller diesel Burb in foreseeable future.

It is a huge huge deal to redesign the floorpan of any vehicle platform - GM just would not not sell that many Dmax Suburbans to make it worthwhile.

I finally gave up waiting and replaced my '98 Suburban 6.5 with a 2006 Sierra CC LBZ. I think there would be a lot of Suburban buyers that would want the D/A, but obviously GM doesn't think there will be enough to pay them to offer it. Ed

We've got a '07 Yukon with the 5.3 Flex Fuel V8/V4 engine. The heavier, faster 06 Duramax gets better mileage...

I wanted a D-max Suburban in 2001, but bought a Crew Cab Short Bed D-max early in 2002 when it became obvious that the D-max Suburban wasn't happening for '02. Added another Kid in 2004 and replaced the 2500HD with a 1500 Flex Fuel Suburban right at the end of the '04 model year when it became obvious that there would be no 2005 Diesel Suburbans. The '04 has 75,000 miles on it. If there is a Suburabn Diesel in 2009 I'll be ready . . . but I'm not counting on it!

Have to agree with JohnC - The 2004 1500 Suburban burns 30% more fuel than the 2002 Sierra 2500HD (That's burning gasoline, make it 65% on E85), and the Suburban sometimes needs 2nd gear for hills the 2500HD would climb in 6th. I like the Suburban, but I'd like it a whole lot better with 300 HP, 520 ft-Lbs and 22 MPG like the 2002. (It's has 290HP, but the other numbers are not close.)
