Just bought a new autometer tach also a new vacuum pump with the engine speed sensor. Seems the output on the engine sensor is a ac voltage and tachs need dc voltage. Is there a way, help

Do a search under " Dr Lee " . He built a circuit to do just what you need .

I'd suggest getting the write-up about the tach install that Dr. Lee wrote, this is bundled in the 6.2L volume that you can purchase on the main site.

This is probably the best and perhaps the only way of getting this valuable information (and more).

Perhaps others that have done this modification can share on getting this to work.

I have no tried this modification, although it seems very worthy! I purchased an ISSPRO diesel tach that required magnets to be glued on the harmonic balancer for it's sensor. Works well, but it's a small display and it wasn't cheap.

Hang in there!
