How do I reset the codes?

I know that this is either impossible or so simple that you all have discussed it many times, but...... Is there a technique for reseting the check engine light without a programmer reader, etc? I had a problem with rodents and wires, and the light came on, and I think I've fixed the problem, but I still have the light.
