Not familiar with the Powermaster.

I believe that the GM units are all rebuilts now and not new Delco's

I use a local rebuild shop that uses fresh Delco parts (or better)
I have used this fellow for several years and the stuff they put out is of good quality.

I would find an independant rebuilder (Local) that has a good reputation and try their stuff.

I am very sceptical of any of the "brands" any more as most of the stuff is rebuilt out of the country and is junk.

I hate to toss cold water on the campfire but my experience with starters and alternators has been poor over the years with most rebuilt stuff.

A starter on a 6.5 although not terribly nasty to change is not something I want to do out in the rain and cold along side the road in the dark.

Been there done that

I bought one of these a couple years ago for my 95 GMC, holding up well so far...

Most diesels will crank slow if the timing is too far advanced, did you check this?

Ditto on that for me too. In fact the first time I started the truck with this unit, it turned over and started so fast, that I shut the key off, I was so startled.

I haven't needed a starter.
I'm pretty sure that when i brought mine to a rebuilder to have him do any PM he thought might be necessary , he said:
1) 'It's Nippondenso , they're the best'.
2) 'Don't touch it until it screws up , it will do good by you'.

If you don't want to buy a new one, consider bringing yours to a shop for renewal ... maybe the solenoid contacts are shot , or brushes worn??

Maybe a cheapo replacement while yours gets some TLC after shipping to Gomer's?
