Just bought an 03 Chevy Duramax that is in excellent condition. It was a single owner, clean carfax and as it happens my mechanic knew the previous owner and I got the full history....clean bill of health all the way around.
The previous owner put quite a bit of miles on it as they traveled to horse shows...149,000 to be exact.
QUESTION...How many miles have any of you gotten out of the 6.6 deisel Duramax with the Allison tranny? How many should I expect as long as proper maintenance is performed?

I don't know about all THESE people on this web site ;) (I work at a GMC dealer) But we (the dealer) use DELO 400 15w40 currently. The oil change light is set to turn on at a max of 10,000! I have never owned a diesel, but I would go 5,000 at the most. And that seems to be what most of our customers are doing also. The computer adjusts the oil change interval according to driving habits.
My computer seems to tell me to change at about 7500 miles. The oil was actually changed at 5-6000. I use Amsoil HD 15w40 because it can get cold here. Iwant my rig to start at -30 without being plugged in. With the synth oil it fire up and has oil pressure quick. Can't allways be in the garage or plugged in.
Since we are on the oil topic, what is your opinion of when the FIRST oil change should be done?

I just changed my oil filter, oil, fuel filter and cleaned my K&N Air filter today.
This way I know when everything was done and can start keeping track from here.
