does anyone out there know anything about a code (3808) i believe. anyway it is a code apparently relating to the glow plugs(glow plug cicuit a malfunction) dosnt seem to bother the truck at all but i'm tired of looking at the light or not knowing if something else could trip the light and i'll never know.any help is appreciated thanx

That's P0380. What year and engine are we talking about?

It's not a hard code (won't shut down the engine or put you in limp mode), but will persist until fixed. Could be the GP's, or the intake heater. If it's over ~60

the truck is an 01 so the lb7. i looked the code up on a cheesy obdII scanner,anyway been driving the truck like this for almost a year no problems yet. when i get a chance i'll look at the gp controller thanx maverick

You shouldn't be hurting anything. At the most, you might get a little puff of smoke on a cold start, or maybe a little more clatter for a few seconds. No problem in the summer, though.

The most likely cause for this code on the LB7 is the G/P relay. It is much cheaper to replace the G/P - IAH controller assy. than the individual relays themselves. Of course this is "internet" diagnosis which is not only fool proof, but in my experience it has always lead to the relay. :)

Could this also be caused by the connector strip between glow plugs on the early Duramaxes that often corroded and broke? I know my '01 did...

Yes. But, only federal emmissions trucks have that. Ca and NE emmissions trucks have individual wires, like the 6.2/6.5. Like Duramaster says, it could be a relay (one of 3), but checking the plugs is free and easy.

Well, Imeant to get the prices today so that I could post the cost difference on this site. The individual relays are about $120!! The assembly is only $65 or so. Open the hood and look to your right rear of the engine compartment. It is a little black box attached to the rocker cover. The fuel supply and return lines are right in front of it. :)

Al right all right........ The assembly costs $62, the individual relay is $95. There are two relays in the assembly. You do the math. The P/N for the assy. is 97371491, the P/N for the individual relay is 97371492. :D

$62 for the assembly plus $25 to remove the desired relay plus $7 to disposed of the unwanted parts remaining = $95 for the relay...

part came in yesterday and i installed it in the truck,about 15 to 20 minutes worth of work. ses light was still on so i thought i'd have to shut it off with a scanner,but started the truck up this morning and the ses light was out and stayed out all day.well worth $78.36 spent.thanx again guys for pointing me in the right direction:
