level of noise I can expect

I am starting to get use to my new suburban and have a question about the noise level that I have from the engine. Now that the nights have dropped to the upper 50

The Burb is going to have a somewhat higher ambient noise level than a similar rig with a gasser for sure.

A cold start will produce the most noise but that will quiet right down after the engine warms up a bit and the cold advance shuts down.

50-60 degrees is not at all cold and will not produce that much more noise than a 70-80 degree start.

Get the sucker down to 20F or lower and they sound like a can full of rocks until they warm up.

This is all very normal and you will soon get used to your noisy little friend
The black puff on start up is normal.
When its realy cold you might even see a touch of bluish white smoke when you light the fire.
