Will a cap off a '86 fit on a '96?

I need to cover a load I'm going to haul in my '96 longbed. A friend in route has a cap for a '86 that he will loan me and I could stop off and borrow. The body styles are different, but will the cap fit?

No. The 88 and newer body style box tapers from front to back. My '95 ext. cap short box is over 1 " narrower at the back than the front of the box, so older style caps would be to wide fro the box. You may be able to make a wood spacer to take up the diffrence, but be hazzle to get everything secure.
