1999 K3500 6.5TD overheated, smokes, runs rough????

Hi, new here looking for some help on my truck, 1999 6.5TD, was driving home from work on firday, was on the road for bout an hour everthing going good no problem, all of a sudden no power, looked down temp gauge was spiked then engine died... towed it back home, got it cooled down, got it started runs a little rough lots of black smoke make a rattling noise. any answers??????

U leakin anything? Maybe head gasket?

no, not leaking anything, it was using a little antifreeze, not a lot. i thought it might be a head gasket but thought i would try to get a second opinion before i got carried away, what about a cracked head??????

I think I would start with putting testing to see if you have exhaust gases in the coolant

you could put coolant pressure tester on the system and start truck and see if you get a quick raise in the pressure tell tail sign of headgasket or head problem

any cause found for the sudden temp raise, broken belt, water pump, t-stat ?

did you check the turbo if it fails you will get low power and black smoke need to find over heat problem first
