Hi,

I'm new here and haven't contributed anything, but I'm hoping I could get a little advice.

My '85 Chev truck needs a new motor. I love the truck and am willing to put a little more money into it than I should. It's the first diesel truck I've owned, and I don't know much about rebuilding them, and work has had me traveling a lot, so I'll probably pay someone else to do the work.

My questions are:

Is upgrading to a more powerful, more modern motor something that a mechanic would/could do for a reasonable price?

What motors (if any) would be interchangeable?

Are there any reputable engine remanufacturers that you would recommend?

Are there any reputable shops in the Seattle area that you would recommend?

Thanks Kindly,

Jim

First off

WELCOME :D

The 6.2 can be upgraded with a Banks turbo or you can install a 6.5 from a later truck and run it as a N/A engine or use a Banks turbo on it.

The 6.5 will bolt right in and you can mix and match most components. ;)

If $$$$ are not an issue a cummins from a Dodge can be fit in or you can use the little 4BT Cummins from a twinky truck.

The choices are wide as are the $$$ cost.

Best thing for least dollars would be to freshen your little 6.2 and then maybe consider a Banks Turbo setup.

A mechanic is going to get spendy if you have to pay by the hour.

Do it yourself and save big time.

Hope this helps
