I dont know what my max egt temps should be? I have my pyrometer probe mounted in the center of the right side manifold, fairly close to the exhaust ports in the head. About 70 mph I am about 400-450 degrees. Under moderate acceration I hit 600 degrees, once under heavy accereration I hit 900 degrees what should I stay away from. Thanks Joe

The conservative limit is about 1200F for most on this board. I personally have run steady state at 1350F for thousands of miles (before modifications) and have seen transients up to 1500F. With the mods, I rarely see 1200F on transients any more. During the pull-off last summer, I peaked at 1450F near the top of the hill.

Joe I would stay away from 1200 degrees, as that is a danger zone. I ran 1200+ a few times while under warranty and blew the head gasket and cracked a head. All covered under warranty. However since warranty is out of the question now, keep them as low as possible. Heat is a killer of almost everything. I don't let mine go above 1100 degrees anymore, and I'm in the left manifold at an exhaust port on the head #7 cylinder. You seem to be ok where you are now, but summer heat, and any heavy loads or towing will increase the EGT's. If you add more fuel, you'll add more heat. An inner cooler will help a lot if you plan to tow. ;)

Mr. 4x4, can you comment on the Diesel Depot CAM? Any before and after seat-of-the-pants impressions?

I bought this truck with a blown motor so I dont know how it ran before. But I can tell you this, compared to my brothers 1994 Z71 6.5 diesel, It is a rocket. It does Ok until about 1600 RPMS as soon as you get a little boost its pulls pretty hard and feels strong. If I were to build another one I would use it again. Joe
