View Full Version : 85 6.2 in 92 pickup
Howdy, I need info on putting 6.2 from 85 sub, 2wd into 92 3/4 ton formerly 6.5 TD 4wd 5 speed. The 6.2 has either 108000 mi or 208000mi, probably 208000. It uses about 1 1/2 to 2 qts between changes. Easiest way is to drop in as is, but looks like I would have to mount fuel filter on firewall. And what about wiring for gauges and tach? Also would have to get dual exhaust. Or put heads, intake and turbo from 6.5 on high mi 6.2? Thanks for any help.
If you need to get the truck up and running you can just drop it in and have a local exhaust shop make a crossover to plumb the two manifolds into the existing single pipe system on the 92.
Use the senders from the 92 engine as well as the vacuum pump in the back if it has it or the oil pump drive which houses the sender for the input RPM.
All this stuff is pretty much mix and match.
You can use an older fuel filter or go to a newer intake for a 6.5 NA and mount the filter in the back as it is now on the 6.5
You can swap the heads off the 6.5 and then turn up the pump a little bit (1/4 turn) and run the turbo setup on the 6.2. or use the 6.5 pump and injectors
As I said you have loads of choices depending on what you have to work with.
Good luck and have fun

Thanks Robyn for the info. Still not sure which way I'm goin' to go till I pull the 6.2. There's no problem putting the turbo on the 6.2? I'm sure I'll be back here for more info thanks again.
Nope, seen it done many times.
You can use all the 6.5 stuff.
Just be sure to use the IP for the turbo motor as well as the heads.
The injector angle and the injectors are different. The High pressure fuel lines need to follow the package too.
