Air Intake quick ?

Thanks for all the information folks provide, I've poored over this website to learn as much as possible.

While doing some recent mod's I noticed this black tube going from the stock air intake to the turbo, it goes from the intake tube over to above the fan. I thought there was some holes in it but it appears solid.

What purpose does this serve? does it hurt to remove it? looking at other pictures of some other rigs I don't see it in all of them.

Again thanks for the info, I just updated the exhaust with a Pro-Flow kit and I can't beleive the extra power I got from it.

It's there to reduce intake noise. GM added this to the late 90's 6.5's.
