Just an update on the last thread I started, can't seem to find it though. 1986 6.2 3spd auto. no power. I have since disconnected the evil EGR and plugged all vacuum hoses associated with said. Seem to have an odd idle. Not what I would consider a "gasser vacuum leak" as this seems to happen on an almost timed up and down of RPM every 20 seconds to a tee?!?!? seems to me this is too long of a delay to be timing chain?? Not sure anymore thouugh. Learing as I go. Also removed the baffled air cleaner intake (b.s) and allowing full flow of fresh air in this beast. I have increased the power and reduced the black smoke when laying into the throttle which makes me a bit happier. Still trying to figure this thing out. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks

From the symptoms given, your engine is "surging" due to a timing varance brought on by housing pressure changes inside the injection pump, due to air.

Install a clear line on the top of the injection pump (1/4" fuel return line) and observe it running to see if you're getting air when running.

I suspect you are.

If so, start looking at everything obvious that could leak on the fuel system, like the filters being tight (both of them, or non-cracked gaskets) and leaking fuel lines, anywhere.

Air in the fuel system, and it'll run out of power for sure.
