Pillar Guage Pods?

Hi has anyone found a source for a three guage pod pillar mount for a 1990 suburban? Do they make such a beast or do you have to fab up something yourself? I really would like to keep them at eye level, I think it would be safer.

This is kinda a dead end I'm afraid...

Looked and Looked and no offerings anywhere for an a-pillar type pod for the side.

I ended up doing something different instead.

I mounted my gauges in a dash-style pod, but on the ceiling between the sun visors. If you have the upper console, this will interfere, but may give you further options.

I have found AutoMeter 99 Xj work very well in the older ( Mine 1986 K5) body style. Shoot me a PM with you e-mail and I can send you some pictures Myself and another guy on CK5 have done this mod.

I'd like to see this pod's appearance too. I'm adding 2 more gauges to my '82 in the near future (that makes 6 aftermarket gauges total).

Except I have only 3: pyrometer, trans temp and tach. It really looks suprisingly clean and nice and is not a hard install at all. I took the time to draw up a template to tape on the dash. Plus, I can easily pull the guages out to adjust or replace the bulb in all of 2 seconds. They stay in place by friction. No line of sight obstacle, either.

Click on "Photo Album" in white text in the blue bar near the top of the screen (underneath the advertisement banner).

From there you will find a place to upload photos, but you'll likely want to create your own "album"

There are some great instructions on the photo album under the members area (of the forum).

I have a 3 guage piller pod in my truck now.;) Unforchantly it isn't a on the shelf part.
I got a deal of ebay on three used gages in a pod,seller couldn't tell me what the pod came out of.but it was fairly easy to convert to my truck.It is made of black abs plastic.I took the piller trim and compared it to the pod i hade and it looked fairly close.So with a heat gun i started to CAREFULLY heat the pod and mold it to the shape of the trim.About 1/2 hour and many trial fits,and a little triming,and VOALA a triple gage piller pod for a straight bodied chevy:cool: . Made a couple of angles to screw to and it was good to go.
I have been driving this body style truck since i got my license,last century.It took some time tio get used to the extra width of the piller,makes for a bit of a blind spot that i'm not really fond of,but should be used to it in 25 yrs:D

Hi Thanks for the info but if you 3500 is a pickup its different than my Suburban. The suburban kept their body style up to 91 while the pickups changed in 88. The pickup window slants back at a much steeper angle. I have a 92 suburban and just bought a pillar pod for it . Was thinking about trying to make it work in my 90 but the guages will be pointing at the roof thats how much difference there is on the window angle. Just by looking at it you could say that the 90 suburban angle is about 45 degrees and the 1992 is about 30 degrees, there is that much difference. If a person knew he probably could get a pod from some other vehicle that had a similar window angle and then mold it as you described and be pretty close. Again thanks for the info. I am looking for any possible solutions. Now I am going to start looking into truck windows and try and find one that has an angle close to mine.

Sorry I too forgot about the crew cab. Say you never found out what it fit? I may have to take mine out and go to one of the larger hot rod shops and try and find a close match.

As mentioned, here are the pictures of Ebrown's Pillar Gauge pod in the 82-87 style pickup chassis (other years for blazer and sub).

Looks like it fits pretty neatly, just need some color matched paint and be set.

This is of a 2 hole pillar pod.
