First of all Hello to all - first post here. (and yes ,I love my Truck..!!)

Well, the title says it all. Given the LBZ motors have 360 hp stock, plenty of torque and with the gear sets in the 6 spd, a lower gear ratio in the rear diff should not make too much of a difference in performance. It might however, provide a few extra MPG's...??

does anyone know if these are available..?? or anything lower than 3.73's for that matter.

Thanks,

stk

3.73's are all that's available with the D/A. The new 6-speed Allison does a good job with reducing engine rpms, and I really wouldn't want any taller gearing than that combination (3.73/6-speed). Unless planning a land speed record! :D

You can buy 3.42 gears now for the 11.5" rear.

The folks at Randy's Ring & Pinion will know.

They have worked with the AAM1150... :)

Low rpm can be detrimental to trans torque converter life - when behind a diesel engine. This is made worse when using more power. The diesel engine torque impulses (from each individual cylinder) are much greater at low rpm than those produced by a gas engine. So, if you want to run at a low engine rpm with any power adders, I'd plan on a performance oriented multi-plate torque converter.

what kind of rpms would be considered too low for hwy speeds ?? 70mph or 80 mph ????

Where are yours at now cruising at 70,75,or 80 mph.
