Have an 84 GMC SWB 4x4 with 6.2L with Banks Sidewinder, 700R4 and 3.42 gears. It seems to be drinking alot of fuel. I have a boost and EGT gauge on order. (I live in a small town, have to order EVERYTHING)
Fuel screw is turned 1/4 turn. Truck runs warmer than I think it should (straight up on gauge) but will replace water pump, etc this weekend with serpentine setup from 93 6.5.

What else do I need to be looking for? I see no leaks. Have changed filter etc. What am I over looking?

Thanks
Virgil

How bad is your fuel mileage? With that transmission and gearing you should be looking around 20 mpg.

I'm getting roughly 8-10 mpg now. Was getting 15-17 before, and when I came home this time, it is the 8-10mpg (I work overseas and am gone a month at a time) I always figured I could get more than 15-17, but have been working bugs out as I just assembled the truck 8-9 months ago.

Gauges!

The "cockpit" of my '95 looks like an aircraft (so I'm told) with gauges...

Some boost and EGT number are in order to tell.

18-19 MPG should be the highway norm with the Banks..

Check for things like dragging brakes, etc.

Any smoke?

John,
Truck is smoking black as normal. Haven't had much time to mess with it due to an illness in the family. (I haven't even started on the serp conversion) Will try to start tinkering with it again tomorrow.

Thanks

Black = unburnt fuel!

Boost gauges will tell the tale, you gotte no boost!
