Hello everybody,
I've trolled these pages for a while now, but this is my first time posting. There is a great deal of excellent info here. I have an '05 GMC 2500HD CC, and it is about time for new tires. Like many here, I'm looking to go a little bigger than the anemic 245's on it now. The thing is, 265's and larger are recommended on wheels 7" in width and wider. I've been thinking about new wheels to accomodate the larger tires and was wondering if anyone has had any experience with the Pro Comp Forged alloys. I thought about getting a set of the Pro Comp All Terrain tires, but after reading about some issues with them, I'm thinking maybe I won't. The issues with the tires led me to wonder about the quality of their wheels. Any feedback will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Hi Dusty,
I have the Pro Comp all terrains and Pro Comp extreme alloy wheels. Four Wheel Parts was having a buy 3 get one free, couldn't turn it down. I went with 265/75/16 load E on 16x8 wheels. My comments on quality. The tires needed 14 oz of weight to balance and still had some issues with vibration. I had them re-balanced at a local shop. I replaced BFG AT's load D, the Pro Comps are a little noisier. The wheels look great but found that they are polished and do not have clear coat, so make sure you wax them if they are going to see any snow and salt during the winter months. The wheel offset they sent me pushes the tire out just a little. Overall I'm happy with the value, 4 tires mounted on rims with lug nuts and caps for $960.

Thanks for the reply, Jeff. The "buy 3, get 1 free" deal at 4WP is what brought my attention to the Pro Comp Tires and wheels, as well. After looking around, I've just about decided to go with Bridgestone Revos. My thinking is that there are many more Bridgestone dealers than Pro Comp dealers in my area, and if I have any problems, I would have an easier time getting service with the Revos. Regarding the clear coat issue-I had a set of M/T Alcoas several years ago, and found out the hard way that uncoated aluminum wheels need to be waxed on a regular basis. Cleaning, alone, was not enough. I wish Alcoa had included a notice addressing that issue. Those wheels corroded and required a professional polishing to bring them back to near new. As far as wheels are concerned, I'm still undecided. There are a lot of people around here who put 265's on their 6.5" wide wheels. Again, thanks for the feedback, Jeff.

Dusty,
Forgot to mention, back when my 2002 was new, I traded off the OEM tires for 265/75/16 BFG AT's on to the stock rims. I made it to 55K miles before I decided last year to go with the Pro Comp's. I rotated front to back every 5K and didn't have any problems. So if you want to stay with 6.5" wide stock, I didn't see any problems.

You're going to have a hard time finding Pro Comp Wheels in the Extreme Forged Series for your truck. I contacted 8 Pro Comp dealers and none of them could get me a 16x8. Only size 4WP has left for a 8x6.5 bolt pattern is 16x10 wheels for the Forged Pro Comp. I actually bought them and tried them but the smallest tire that would fit a 16x10 was a 305 and it's still a 1/2" out of spec. 305 on a 16x10 would not work up front on my 2500HD '07 Classic without a lift. These wheels stick out far and the tire hit the rear of the fender wall preventing it from turning (not just the plastic liner but the far enough out that there's steel behind stopping the wheel from turning). I was very disappointed since the ProComp Alloy Forged wheels are very very nice. Was forced to return them and bought some Alcoa Classic forged 16x7 (also very nice but I did want a 16x8 wheel).
Pro Comp has discontinued making the Forged wheels which is why nobody can get them. If you want to put a lift on your truck 4WP still has some 16x10's in a 8x6.5 bolt pattern but it was the only retailer I found that had any in that bolt pattern.

Jeff, thanks for the additional info.
kburati, thanks for your response to my post. I got the same response from 4WP when I checked back with them after my first post. It's too bad because I liked their Stryker style. Well, I think I have decided to go with Centerline Vectors in 16x8 with a 4.5" B.S.(they have a 3200# load rating) and Bridgestone Revos in 265/75R16. I'm hoping I won't have to do any trimming. Thanks, again, to you both for responding.

Im from the st.louis area and guys around here are running 285s on the stock rims and a leveling kit, which brings me to the question is there a factory option for having the suspension leveled,i cant imagine all these guys buying and installing leveling kits.I bought new torsion keys but havent had the b*lls to put them on nor can i find anybody willing to do it for me,they look so much better leveled even if you lose efficiency.

Hi, nbloecher. I know a lot of people are running 285's on their factory aluminum wheels with no problems. More power to them. With my luck, I'd be the first guy to have a dealer refuse to cover a warranty issue with the truck due to having an unauthorized tire size on the factory wheel. That's why I bit the bullet and ordered a set of wheels in 16x8.
