i have a 6" lift on my truck with 315/75/17 tires i am considering changing to 4.10s for gas mileage. any advise? would it require tech 2?

Best option would be to find a 4.10 gasser that wants to switch. Direct parts swap. The problem you will run into is the ABS. The front sensor is on each wheel, and the rear is at the tranny/TC output. Meaning, the front won't see the gear change while the rear will. You will need some custom programming, like EFI Live or custom PCM to get them to work properly. There was/is no OEM 4.10 option on a Duramax equipped light truck, so a Tech II won't help.
