View Full Version : Fair Trade Difference $$? 2006 for 2007 DMax
Hello all-
I have strongly been considering trading my 2006 Duramax up for a 2007 (new style), similarly equipped. I was curious what you guys think a good trade difference is?
My 2006 is a 2500HD DMax w/ 7200 miles and like new. 4 door and black in color and loaded with everything. I am talking the sunroof, XM, leather, Bose, DVD player, still looks and smells new. I ordered with everything you get, except the towing mirrors. It even has the plastic factory covers over the floormats and plastic over the radio still. (yeah, I know...)
I would like to trade for something equally equipped, but in the new (not classic) body style. Even though I have mixed feelings over the new 07 motor and all that EPA mumbo jumbo, I would like to see what you guys feel a fair trade value is. Thank you in advance for any input and suggestions!

I did the same thing the last 2 years and traded my d/a loaded with 12k and it cost me $10k to trade. Don't think i'll do it this year.

Jim... thanks, but no thanks for the KBB information regarding the trade difference. My 2006 vehicle that had a MSRP of 49,000 less than 12 months ago now has a resale value of $35,000, per KBB. I have traded for a new Duramax annually, since 2003. Usually for around $6000-$7500 difference. I guess the concern I was attempting to address: How is the new body style/engine going to alter the value of prior duramax's when attempting to trade.

Kinda like the 2004 Chrylser Pacifica, loaded up, that my wife bought for 35K and 50,000 miles and three years later is a clean, well maintained 12K trade-in.

Seems like 2001-2004 you could buy, drive, and trade Duramaxes and they retained their value like no other truck. About the time of the 'Family Pricing' promotion, everything changed as the laws of supply and demand reached the 'tipping point' - where available supply (used + new dealer stock) began to outstrip demand.
I bought a 2005 LLY 2500HD crew for ~36K and sold it (private party) less than 18 months later for $24K with 78K miles. My target fleet vehicle (Duramax) is now 2 or 3 model years old, priced in the mid/high 20s, with less than 50K miles, with an original MSRP of 42K-44K.
Sounds like you have a sweet deal with a local dealer. If you wait to trade until they have someone shopping for the 'classic' bodystyle, maybe you could do even better as they should be getting hard to find, right?

So much depends on how well (or not) the new LMM does. If the engine does well and the new emissions system is more or less transparent, the new GMT-900 body style D/A's will retain their value better and be more sought after than the GMT-800's. On the other hand...

you ll get killed on trade, most dealers go by wholesale value. real low numbers.
and even if u buy new at invoice, incentives will be zero no doubt to start.
imo, stick with the 06, unless your getting a BIG tax refund !
Well i did it-traded my truck-[read- bio].my truck plus $20,000 us for a 2007 LBZ 1 ton srw,slt,crewcab-MSRP-[sticker on the window]-$53,600 us.

How many miles on the 2003?
Don't trade, sell it yourself.
I bet it will cost you $10,000 to trade up to an '07.
An '07 isn't $10,000 better than your '06.
