Afternoon,

Getting ready to pull the NV4500 Manual Tranny on our K2500.

A question in case someone has a ready answer. Maybe even point me to some place where it is discussed. ?? Since the clutch is OK, do I need to pull the bell housing? Have done a manual tranny a long time ago, and just left the BH on the engine. Not sure if it will work with this one. ???

Thanks, John

Yes, You can just pull the trans and leave the BH.

Most people would say that when you're doing all of the work to pull the tranny, you replace the clutch even if it seems to be ok.

Pull the bell housing and check the pivot ball and throwout arm for excessive wear, replace the pilot bearing, at least check the pressure plate bolts are all torqued properly, I got my money on two of them being loose. Last time I pulled the trans I replaced the clutch just because LOL.

If you look at a cost of time basis, you replace it because the hours to R & R the tranny again to fix the clutch are worth a LOT more than the $200 for the clutch kit. Or, you convince yourself that you can't afford it and learn the hard way!:D
