Loosen and remove the negative battery cable from both batteries.

I've done this a bunch over the past few years. Nothing untoward happened. Expect some minor sparking to occur when you reconnect the first negative battery cable. This is normal, it's not a problem. I try to reconnect quickly to reduce the amount of it though...

The parking brake light illuminates when the parking brake lever is pushed down a ways. Doing that just makes or breaks a contact switch. That switch is monitored by the vehicle's electronic modules.

ABS is electronic....

The dealer said to disconnect both batteries and ground the + and - cables together to remove any residual power stored in the computer. It works.. Just disconnecting the batteries does nothing but give you a check engine light which turns out to be (Voltage spike).. Go figure.
