View Full Version : 6.5 TD Replacement Options/Advice....
Hi All,
My name is Chris from Maryland and I am new to this Forum....I own a 1992 Chevy K2500 with a 6.5 TD. I picked up this truck for $200 and did about $1000 of repairs to get her tagged and titled. However she has very bad blow by and uses about a quart of oil every 100miles

Might want to spend some time reading the forums. Lots of posts about people rebuilding engines and where they are getting parts from. If it is merely a re-ring job you're likely better off pulling the engine and rebuilding it than throwing the dice and getting a "rebuilt" engine of questionable background...
I have been leaning in that direction....however I saw this company offering essentially what I need at a cheaper cost than what I can rebuild it for. That got me thinking....

Good Day!
"That got me thinking..." That always gets me thinking - what'd they leave out? Good parts cost $, so does top-notch work. I'm not dis'ing them - they may have a terrific product. I just get more careful as the $ drop.
Blessings!
This is true....I have been in to Jeeps for years so I know that sometimes you do get lucky, but for the most part you get what you pay for.

There are several companies operating on eBay and the net that I wouldn't touch. I've heard a number of horror stories. You'd have much better odds of being satisfied when dealing with a vendor who advertises in one of the enthusiast forums (like this one :) ). In some cases, there's a reason why the others don't advertise here..... ;)
The following vendors offer new or reman 6.5 engines, support the Internet community and would be recommended.
www.peninsulardiesel.com (http://www.peninsulardiesel.com)
www.dieselservices.com (http://www.dieselservices.com)
www.usdieselparts.com (http://www.usdieselparts.com)
www.kennedydiesel.com (http://www.kennedydiesel.com)
www.bd-power.com (http://www.bd-power.com)
Contact them all, then decide what to do. ;)

Great advice...I don't want to throw money away.

Sort of goes back to the old adage: There is good, fast, and cheap - you're allowed to pick any two...
With these diesels, I'd feel much more comfortable tearing into it myself and doing the work that needs to be done and knowing that it was done and how it was done than save some money only to be left stranded somewhere down the road...
