View Full Version : Six of eight Glow Plugs
Hello All:
I have only six out of eight glow plugs that glow. The last two were just too hard to get at. Other than a bit harder starting and lots of white smoke on startup, will this do any damage?

If it's #8 - rear passanger - I got to that one from underneath - really easy to do.
If it's #6 - well the dang down pipe... and #4 , once you undo the "Heat shield Tube", isn't that bad -
Oh to answer your question- I don't think so...

It's not good for the engine to start on some and not others.
IMHO, this uneven firing may place undue stress on the crank and webs below.
Aftermarket downpipes make changing #6 and #4 almost impossible w/o removing either the turbo or the downpipe itself.

The only one I found moderately difficult on my 6.5l was the #6. With a good ability to navigate my touch and sense of "it oughta be...there!" you should be able to reach it with a 1/4" drive ratchet, 6" or longer extension, and 3/8" (AC60G) or 10mm (Kennedy) deep socket.
