I have a 21' open car trailer with a 12v truck battery on it used to power the 9000lbs winch. i spoke w/ a mechanic from my local chevy dealership and he had stated that there was an open spot in my fuse box to put a 30 amp fuse to charge the battery thru the factory trailer wiring harness and plug. i havent put the fuse in yet. my question is by putting that fuse in does it charge the trailer battery(trailer, plug, and battery is wired correctly) is the mechanic correct or will i have to do something different?

Your mechanic is correct. Be sure the trailer is wired correctly. Check the voltage at the trailer battery before/during the truck is running. It should be ~12V off, and 14V+ on.
