View Full Version : Can I borrow your VIN number?
Today I verified that I do indeed have 97 programming. Max fuel is 62-64mm according to my Tech II.
Now I would like to have the ECM reflashed with 99-up data.
Here's my question...
Does anyone here have a '99 or '00 Crewcab, automatic, 2wd Dually that could share with me the last 8 digits of their VIN?
I found somebody to do the reflash, but he needs a VIN from whatever year I wish to put in. Is their anything else I need to know?
Does anybody have a 16216588 ECM for sale?
Any and all help is always appreciated.
The 99-00 6.5 in the pick ups is listed for the same 195hp as your 97 if it's a F code motor.
There is a 215hp version in the HD 3500's that use the 6.5, can't remember the year though.
I just got my 98 sub back from the stealership and after they installed a new fsd under warranty, I had them reflash the computer. I paid them $75.00. It made a totally different truck out of it. It definately gets more fuel now. I haven't put the tech 11 on it to verify the actual max fuel delivery yet, but it's definately more than it was. The truck has never peformed like it does now. I took my boost controller off before taking it in and when I picked it up and first nailed the throttle it felt stronger than ever before even only pegging boost @ 12#s. Before I had to try really hard to see EGT"s of 700 degrees, now it gets to 900 pretty easily. It also fixed my high idle problem. Best $75 I've spent.

3500hd 215hp is a myth i believe
hit autotrader.com and find the truck you like and use its vin
i supplied my service guy 3 numbers to try and it made a huge difference

The re-flash it true, I have verififed with 2 different TechII's that my truck puts out about 76-78mm of fuel at full-throttle (until the IAT gets up and reigns it in....). Mine was done for free while they were trying to figure out my PMD problem (wouldn't take my word for it....) Hopefully the intercooler will keep it from backing off...

That's what I am going to do. I think I found a couple of good numbers. I just want to make sure everything matches (Crew cab, trans, etc.)
I also found another ECM to reprogram. $125 is the price delivered to my door. $75 to flash ECM through a local parts house.
If I got 75-76mm, I'd be thrilled. Wasn't too crazy about BD reflash.
Thanks JK...

good luck bill, sounds like you have it sorted
don't think you need to worry about options and so forth as i picked a stripped 3500hd work truck vin and everything in my loaded 4wd tahoe works great. i think making sure it is an automatic is the only concern.
could be wrong though!

I verified last night with a tech 11 that the the computer reflash did indeed change my max fuel output to 76-77 mm's. I don't think that you need the vin # off a 99up to get this program. The dealer called in my vin # to GM to get the reprogram for my truck. One side note of the reflash is that it improved my brakes considerably! I have always had poor brakes, but now they feel pretty good.

I think I made a mistake with the years of the programming. It was 98+.
You may have had 76mm all along...
My '98 is listed at 64mm at 195hp. Can this be uped to the 78 mm with just a tech 2?

My 98 L56 PCM was 63mm as well I got a 99PCM L65 from the boneyard to get the 76mm program, I'm not sure if T2 resets the program.

O.K., I'm new, what is this reflash, and would it work on my '95, and what does it do ??
OK. Just finished installing PCM with '00 programming...
Now truck doesn't start.
What did I do wrong?

Don't know. Might try reseat pcm in connector? Also, disconnect batteries, then reconnect after a minute? Did you take any 'anti-static precautions' {grounded wrist-strap, or at least be sure to touch chassis with hand before inserting circuit board? Maybe try reinsert original board and see if still runs, then try new again...good luck.
After going over more posts, I believe the '00 computer will not work now because my '97 does not have the Passlock Theft Deterrant system.
Fantastic...
Back to the BD re-flash idea.
At least now I have a core...
That's all I did Tom, disconnect batteries, plug in PCM, and reconnect batteries.
Thanks Guys
