1982 6.2 engine into 1995?

Can get a good deal on a 5 speed 1995 3500 truck. Dead motor. I have a good 1982 6.2 motor. Of course the 95 is electronic, but if I added a manual accelerator and bolted in the 82 would all be ok?

The '82 pedal assy bolts right in the '95, and the square cut-out for the throttle cable is in the firewall, courtesy of GM.

PCM not required with manual trans, so you'll need the early vacuum electric servo setup for Cruise

You might want to do the head-gaskets, timing chainset, waterpump, etc, freshen that '82 up a bit B4 you put it in the truck - much easier on the floor than in the engine bay

Might want to check the regulations. Here in PA you have to install an as new or newer engine if doing an engine swap. Can't imagine that CA would let you do otherwise...

In CA, that is true of gassers. But, we have NO inspections or accountability for Diesels. Once it's registered as a Diesel, you can do anything you want with it. If you install a gasser in a Diesel registered vehicle, you are required to re-register it, or risk getting caught and pay huge fines.

DmaxMaverick is correct, no currect annual testing for diesel vehicles. Because of this there are more than one big blocks in "diesel" licensed vehicles. No testing so no smog requirements.

I am debating between a 6.2 or a 453T in the 95 chassis. The 453 will have a lot more torque, but also a lot more work to install.

Hmmm... Might have to check the PA codes again. Diesels are not subject to the smog testing and all, but it was my understanding that the "new or newer" engine rule still applied in swaps. Have to give them a call for an interpretation.
