GM tried to sell the transmission business in the mid 90's as well. At that time, I worked for Allison Gas Turbine Division. We got sold and so did Allison Transmission. However, the government blocked the transmission deal on anti trust and national security issues.

The gas turbine business was sold to a group of investment bankers who sold it to Rolls-Royce 18 months later. Don't know why "national security" wasn't an issue in that deal...

Any news on who would be in the market to buy??? Diamler/Chrysler maybe?? Can Ford afford it? (No punning!!)
