View Full Version : Junk yard find
I was walking through the local bone yard and there is a 93 GM truck with a 6.2 in it. Is this something worth getting out for a future build up? It had no holes it. :D
From what I've read, it's nothing special.
I'd pass...
What about the serp. belt setup and the 4911 pump ?
The motor is complete.
I thought that year was the best block besides the new one to do a build on and even better since it's a 6.2 to start with.
1982 is the Infamous Red Block I believe.
Higher Nickel Content. I don't think you can bore it to 6.5 specs, you need to use 6.2 Crank & modify Turbo oil feed line.
Not a bad choice, though.

The 6.2 is worth having if it's the cast number that you're looking for to punch to 6.5, but I'd leave it 6.2 if it were me. But anyways, you'll need the cast number, if it's a 599 and it's a 6.2 then it's sure worth having. It's not any less prone to cracking though. At least if it's a 599 6.2 then it will have the single piece rear main seal, which is much better IMHO than the two-piece rear main seal used in other 6.2's.
Billman is right in that the 82 red blocks are the ones sought after for not cracking.
