Borrowing a theme from another post I am seeking opinions between a low mileage (30K) 2005 LLY or a LBZ. I've done my searches and recognize the HP and tranny differences just wondering if there are any major performance/upgrade/known issues that I would regret with the 2005 model. Primarily to be used as a freeway driver with only occasional heavy towing.
Thanks.
I guess the dollar wil be highly influential. IMHO the LBZ is a much more refined product.
I'm glad all of your "experts" agree on the LBZ since I have one. <smile> Ed
If highway driving is important, I'd opt for a 2006 or 2007, LLY or LBZ, if only to get the double overdrive...

If you can afford the LBZ, all else being equal, it's a no-brainer.
Longer warranty, better cooling system, 6 speed, all good.
Possible glow plug problem covered by warranty (not too bad)
Hardly anyone is complaining about LBZ on this forum, so if you haven't bought it yet, someone else probably has!!!
However, if the 05 is significantly more affordable, it is also a great truck. You might have to let off the foot a little on long steep hills with a heavy tow in hot weather, or get a V2 cooling mod for it.
Mines been great, absolutely NO problems.
Mileage 17.5-19 highway empty, 13-14 US MPG as shown above.
I've hauled that camper up a long 6% grade in hot weather at 60mph, and the fan didn't even come on til near the top of the hill.

Can't complain about my O5 LLY. Last trip up to Adirondacks with 2000 lbs of flooring in the bed and strong cross winds - 19 mpg. Cruise set at 65. some hills and below 0 cold starts. Never had a Ford of Dodge so can't compare but would buy another Duramax in a heartbeat.
