Just purchased an 07 Sierra Classic 2500HD and I am wondering how theft resistant these trucks are. Anyone have any thoughts or advice on this model?

Someone with a spare steering column harness w/ignition and a Tech II scan tool could drive a truck away in just a few minutes. Someone with a roll-back or wrecker could also do it in about the same amount of time - without any special equipment. This might be the preferred method...

If you install an aftermarket security system, get one that breaks a starter or ignition circuit under the hood. If the mods are unique and well hidden, it'll protect your truck from being driven away. I'd also recommend a security system that detects breaking glass. Thieves must break a window to get into the truck (the door linkage is monitored by the factory Passlock security system).

Alarms are (in my opinion) useful only to cause apprehension in the thieve's mind. People in general don't pay a lot of attention to them anymore. I'd get one that pages you or calls your cell phone (in addition to sounding the alarm). Put a "Secured by S&W" sticker in the back window. :)

My nephew had his 2006 Ford Superduty broken into in Las Vegas a couple months ago. The thieves stole his audio & video system, and trashed the dash, center console and interior. They broke a side window to gain entry.

OK but on the other side of the coin the majority of thefts are done by low life who don't have access to a wreaker or a flatdeck (unless they steal one)
Only 1% of the new trucks (1999 and up)we pull into our tow yard are Chev's Majority are Ford and Dodge. The one Chev we did get in (stolen) somehow the thief got a hold of the keys. Plain and simple park next to a Ford or Dodge pickup and yours will still be there when you come back.

A while back some low life stole a older Chevy 4x4 and then crashed it a short while later head on into a parked full sized van totaling both trucks. Police couldn't figure out why -- I did -- the steering lock re-engaged while the thief was driving LOL

You could also check out a new TDP advertiser called Vandal Alert (http://www.thedieselpageforums.com/cgi-bin/banners/ebanners.cgi?emerg). They claim:

Finally, a no-nonsense anti-theft device that the end user can install. This revolutionary immobilizer uses a Theft Avoidance Module that replaces the starter, fuel pump, or ignition relay in select vehicles. You can have a very sophisticated system installed in less than 5 minutes.
The Vandal Alert "TAM"may also qualify you for up to a 20% discount on your comprehensive vehicle insurance.

Deactivation of the "TAM" is done by inserting a Digitally Coded Key Plug into your vehicles cigarette lighter or accessory outlet, or by a Remote "Code Hopping" Transmitter.

There are no wires and visible signs of an antitheft system, the "car will just not start". If you are looking for protection without annoying false alarms, the Vandal Alert "TAM". is your answer.
